Grangemouth ran out easy winners in this rather one sided fixture, but it proved to be an ideal preparation game and morale booster for the upcoming season. The game rounded off a demanding week with a full contact training session and team run on Tuesday night, an away fixture to Hillfoots on Wednesday, further full contact on Thursday, followed by this fixture in howling rain and wind. However, playing numbers are clearly showing signs of steadily improving, and this allowed the coaching team to select from a number of familiar and untested heads.

The game itself was rather marred by the torrential rain that never ceased for the full duration. Mike Gowdy further compounded matters by requiring stitches to his hand ruling him out minutes before kick off. However, the Stags had the luxury of a starting 15 and a further dozen on the touchline raring to go.

The game itself was perhaps predictably one sided with the home advantage to the Stags, the difference of 3 divisions between the teams, and Fife were weakened by a number of call offs, but Grangemouth were clinical from the first whistle scoring from the kick off out wide.

The game was once again split in to 4 x 20 minutes to allow maximum changes and tactical information communicated to both sets of players in the spirit of pre season preparation. The scores continued to flow with Bubba, Charlie Gillanders, Spenny and Caine amongst those to touch down, while Craig Gibb, Graeme Mair and Dave Brunton taking it in turns to add the extras.

This fixture helped to raise the morale of the players for the return fixture of Hillfoots next week, allowing Grangemouth to exact a little revenge for the whitewash endured midweek.

A big thank you to Fife for fulfilling this friendly fixture, and we wish you all the best for the coming season.
