STAGS SELECT TAKE ON THE SCOTTISH WILDCATS WHEELCHAIR RUGBY CLUB!

Daniel about to get smacked by an incoming missile? And they only just met him!!

The Grangemouth Stags were recently invited to play a friendly exhibition match against Scotlands only wheelchair Rugby team, the Scottish Wildcats. The fixture was played in the Grangemouth Sports Centre complex as a chance to promote the sport and make the local community more aware of the activity.

Many of the players on the Scottish Wildcat team are people who were past rugby players themselves, have since suffered a paralysing injury, and as a result have taken up the wheelchair version for much the same reasons as anyone would play rugby- for fitness, social interaction, the challenge and the opportunities it brings.

Wheelchair Rugby, formerly known as Murderball, is now a recognised and an established Paralympic sport with the Wildcats having in the past helped shape players who have gone on to full international GB honours.

GRFC were delighted to get this opportunity to participate in the fixture, and hope that they get the chance to do so agin in the future. All the players learned a great deal from the experience including the equipment used, the rules and regulations, and as mentioned above that the Wildcat players are in every way similar to the GRFC players but have had an injury which has shaped the sports that they play.
