Sunday 30th September

National League Div. 2

Grangemouth Ladies 15 - 29 Berwick Ladies

Grangemouth Ladies travelled away to Berwick on Sunday to compete in their first fixture of the season now playing in the National League having been promoted last season.

The ‘Stagettes’ started strongly scoring the first points of the game by Susan Ferguson. A try between the sticks following a backs move which came straight off the training field, ripping the Berwick defence apart.

Grangemouth did not add to their points in the first half but worked hard against a much bigger and more established team.

Two further tries were scored in the second half by Ferguson and Elaine Bradie.  Both scores came from quick tap penalties, catching the Berwick defence off guard, and resulting in Ferguson running in from 20 yards and Bradie using her power to go through the defence from 5 yards out.

This was a gutsy performance by Grangemouth considering they gained little from their set piece but the creativity of their open play proved fruitful.  As ever there is plenty to work on at training this week.

Player of the day was Elaine Bradie, scoring her first ever try, followed by Mairi Forsyth playing her first senior game, and Kairn Campbell.    Karen Ditch and Lesley Middlemiss also debuted for the Ladies.

Grangemouth Ladies train Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm.

Next fixture; Home to Melrose on 14th October 2pm kick off
