GRANGEMOUTH LADIES STAGETTES 17 - 55 DUNDEE UNIVERSITY LADIES

Grangemouth Ladies played their first game of 2008 against second top Dundee University.  This was the first game since early December due to a defaulted game by Berwick and a call off due to poor pitches in to Melrose.

Grangemouth could only field a team of 12 players due to other commitments but this was reduced to 11 within the first 5 minutes following a knee injury to Elaine Bradie.  The game was declared a friendly and Grangemouth borrowed a Dundee player to play 12 aside.

The first 20 minutes looked very rusty with Grangemouth taking their time to get into the game.  Dundee Uni showed good pace and awareness to exploit the space down the wing and score. Dundee went on to score numerous other tries like this mainly due to space opening up in the defensive line.

Grangemouth did string together an excellent series of passes to send Susan Ferguson over for her first of tries. Ferguson should also have been awarded a penalty try having been scragged by her collar feet from the line.  Unfortunately the referee gave a debatable decision of only a penalty.

Lorna Drummond was also to score, on her debut from Grangemouth, by outstripping the University players down the right wing to earn her player of the day. The third try was again by Ferguson, the move starting from kick off with Elizabeth Lawrie making the initial break, passing to Drummond who passed out of the tackle to Ferguson.  Ferguson converted her own try.

Drummond produced some excellent cover tackling to prevent some Uni scores in the second half but with Karen Ditch leaving the field injured Grangemouth played out the remainder of the game a player down.

Special mention goes to Alex Chapman who covered the wing from second row well and Jemma Forsyth for her first game at 10.  The match reporter apologises for the lack of details but it was a bit muddy!
