GRANGEMOUTH STAGS 2ND XV 39 - 0 EDINBURGH ACADEMICALS 3RD XV

Edinburgh Accies, currently sitting third in the league and having only lost 2 games in their last 15 games, must have travelled to Glensburgh at the weekend confident of getting a result.

The Stags second string however had something to say about the result and played their best rugby of the year so far to record a 39 to nil victory over the city club.

It was a perfect day for running rugby and it did not take long for the Stags to spread the ball wide to their wingers. Jordan Cuthbertson was unlucky not to go in for the first try, but was tackled short of the line perhaps high, however off the resulting scrum , Innes picked up to feed Rawlings who passed wide for Angus to score.

The Stags backrow of Gill, Innes and McNiff were outstanding and it did not take long for both McNiff and Gill to get on the score board.

Man of the match Gibb completed the first half scoring with a solo effort from the half way line, supported all the way by Bird back on his own 10 yard line.

Unfortunately goal kicker Innes forgot his kicking boots and landed only one conversion in the first half.

With the game now safe the Stags made changes at half time, bringing on Saul Holdsworth and Paul Burns both of whom scored good tries.

Adam Middleton and Sean Holdsworth also came on, and continued to show improvement

The scoring was completed by Bird who claims to have run forty yards and beat 6 men in the process after he moved to Standoff for the last 5 mins of the game.

The writer was unsighted at the time but it looked more like he tripped and fell over the line from a yard out, after he eventually caught up with play.

Innes eventually hung up his kicking boots after landing just one conversion in the second half to alow Saul to slot one from two.

The seconds now play Linlithgow at Glensburgh this Saturday at 2pm.
