FALKIRK U16'S 5 - 20 GRANGEMOUTH STAGS U16'S
It was with some surprise, given the copious rain over that last few days and Sunnyside not renowned for its pitch quality that we left Grangemouth for the short trip to Falkirk for the U16 encounter between the two sides. However the match did go ahead on what can best be described as a heavy pitch and both sides tried to show some running rugby skills with a ball that resembled a very dirty bar of soap for most of the match. The first half was evenly contested; with Grangemouth scoring through wing forward Aubrey bagging two tries.
Falkirk also recorded a score. Half time 5-10.
The second half saw Grangemouth start brightly with several probing runs from both backs and forwards notably from Robbie and Kyle, though the final pass too often went astray. Allan in one of his rare outings for the U16s scored a fine try after finally injecting some pace into his up to that point pitifully slow jog.
Aubrey barged over for his hat-trick score following some great pressure from scrum half Ward to steal the ball from his opposite number and feed back inside for the score.
The remainder of the game was scrappy as the pitch took its toll on the young players. Grangemouth were delighted to get their first win of the season with the final score Falkirk 5 – Grangemouth 20.
