KINROSS RFC 2ND XV 14 - 75 GRANGEMOUTH STAGS RFC 2ND XV
(Match forfeited- game awarded to Grangemouth)
The Grangemouth 2nd XV stated their league campaign with a win, but it was gained in an unwanted fashion. The stags turned up in Kinross with a very young team, but there was a strong belief that this would be a good test and a perfect challenge. However, just prior to kick off, Kinross proposed forfeiting the fixture due to lack of numbers. They were left short handed as their 1st XV hit the road for a gruelling away match to Orkney.
It was decided that a game should go ahead regardless, as both teams were keen not to waste a Saturday, and take the chance to get another 'pre season' match under their belts. Grangemouth gave 3 players to Kinross to make it 13 aside, and a reasonably entertaining game followed. With the lack of numbers on each side, space was in plenty supply and made for a very open an fast match. Tries flowed throughout the afternoon, but the final score was 75 - 14 to the visiting stags.Chris Bruce was the stand out for the Stags running in a number of tries, ably supported by various others.
A win was welcome, and a 'training session' appreciated, but the 2nds are keen to launch their real league campaign next week and put more points up early on the table.
