Grangemouth Stags U18’s 21 – 7 Kirkcaldy U18’s
Grangemouth under 18’s played at home on Saturday in a league game against Kirkcaldy.
Day started of fine, with the sun shining and a good home support. Grangemouth were in possession of the ball for the first fifteen minutes of the game, but sloppy play allowed Kirkcaldy to get possession and scored a try and then kicked the conversion. Due to a hard tackle Connor McFarlane received an injury to his leg which resulted in him being subbed by Aaron Dow. Good tackling by Grangemouth and were constantly in the Kirkcaldy half however they just couldn’t get the ball over the try line. After numerous scrums and line outs Grangemouth finally got the breakthrough they have been trying so hard to get. Daniel Ward passed a good ball to Aubrey Young who ran up half the park then just inside the 22 he passed the ball to CJ who scored the first try with David John Innes kicking the conversion. Connor McFarlane returns to the park and Aaron Dow is back on the sub bench. Grangemouth heads are up. The team is more determined to win this game.
Second half starts again Grangemouth are in control and yet again Kirkcaldy manage to get their hands on the ball and score and kick a conversion after 3 minutes. Grangemouth again up at Kirkcaldy’s 22 big push provided by Grangemouth manage to get to the try line however Ally Brown was held up by a Kirkcaldy player. Weather changed from a fine day to pouring of rain. Making the game harder to control. However Grangemouth still in possession of the ball for most of the game but struggled to get over the try line. After a high tackle from Kirkcaldy Grangemouth are given a penalty, team decide to take it as a conversion, David John Innes failed to score on this occasion.
Five minutes later Grangemouth won a line out, Aubrey Young is passed the ball runs three quarters of the pitch passed to CJ in Kirkcaldy’s 22 and he managed to score, with David John Innes making the full seven points.
Kirkcaldy kicked the ball into Grangemouth half, after a few tackles Kirkcaldy get their hands on the ball. The player runs through 5 Grangemouth players before finally being tackled to the ground inside Grangemouth 22.
10 minutes to end of game and after a Grangemouth lineout Kyle Risk gets passed the ball. Makes a great run up the pitch and scores the final try and yet again David John Innes finishes it off with another conversion.
New player to the team Martin Girvan is given Man of the match.
Great end to a hard game. Grangemouth could have scored at least another 2 tries considering the large amount of possession they had throughout the game. If the Grangemouth lads want to keep enjoying the winning feeling they need to commit to training Tuesday/Thursday
