Hawthornvale

National Reserve League Division 4 (East)

LASSWADE 2ND XV 20 - 10 GRANGEMOUTH STAGS 2ND XV

The Stags second string travelled to Lasswade RFC to take in the new first class facilities at Hawthornvale with high hopes of recording a good league result.Unfortunately the rugby from either side did not live up to the quality of the pitch.

Lasswade fielded what can only be described as an 'experienced' line up of heavyweights and it was through their pack that they set up the first points, scored by the boot of the standoff. The stags always looked dangerous when they moved the ball wide and eventually this was to pay off when Stuart Allan put Saul Holdsworth in for the first stags score.

However, Lasswade had the best of the first half going in 15 to 5 up.

Now with the wind in their favour the Stags knew they only had to get the ball into the oppositions and half and move it wide to score. After excellent work by the forwards the ball was moved swiftly wide to allow Stuart Allan to score, but again the conversion was missed. After several missed opportunities to wrap the game up the stags slipped up to allow a late try by the home side.

The Stags fielded two new players Patrick Kean and Adam Middleton, both played well and will be pushing for regular team places.

The stags 2s play hosts to Watsonians 3s this weekend in the league.
