GRANGEMOUTH LADIES STAGETTES RFC 24 - 22 LISMORE LADIES RFC
This fixture saw Grangemouth Ladies 4th game of the season against Lismore Ladies, who travelled to the Glensburgh grounds for a very cold but challenging game.
Grangemouth Ladies started strong with Emma FH putting in a strong run from a scrum to score within the first 5 minutes of the game. This was shortly followed by a try from Lismore placed at the far right of the try line. Neither of these tries was converted.
Strong passing and driving combinations led to Elizabeth Crossan breaking out of a maul to score a second try for Grangemouth just shy of the posts. This was unfortunately not converted but brought the score to 10 – 5.
Quick passing and a skillful sidestep allowed Susan Ferguson to break free of the Lismore group to run from before the half way line and score between the posts. She then followed this up with a conversion taking the ladies score to 17 – 5
Powerful tackling from all, in particular Karen Ditch who is showing much promise in her first season for Grangemouth, helped the ladies maintain their possession of the ball and keep the Lismore girls in their own half. Debbie Little put in a strong drive before being taken down within 5 metres of the try line. Mhari Forsyth demonstrated skill and determination in driving forward, ball in hand throughout the game.
Susan Ferguson scored Grangemouth ladies 4th try after chasing a series of Grubber kicks, closely supported by Kairn Campbell, before scoring again between the posts. This try was converted again bringing a close to the first half with a score of 24 – 5.
The second half proved more of a challenge when Lismore upped their game and forced Grangemoth back into their half. The ladies faced more challenges when Kairn Campbell received a yellow card and was lost for 10 minutes of the game. Her powerful driving and tackling was missed. Lismore ladies scored a further 3 tries in the second half but only one was coverted bringing the final score to 24-22 and giving Grangemouth their first but well deserved win of the season.
