LISMORE 2ND XV 7 - 34 GRANGEMOUTH STAGS 2ND XV

The Stags travelled to Lismore with a squad further bolstered by the inclusion of Stevie Sommerville, Stuart Doig and Ben Mallinson, all of whom played very well, with Stuart doig in particular turning in an excellent performance and scoring two tries into the bargain.

Unfortunately the overall team performance in the first half was not up to the standards set in recent league fixtures and going in only 10-7 up, was simply down to poor finishing by the stags.

The changes were made at half time, bringing Gordie Strapon into the backrow, Neil Chisholm to centre, and Rob Holdsworth to scrum half, kicked the team into gear, running in four unanswered tries.

Man of the Match Holdsworth put in a great all round shift in attack and defence, and with the likes of Mallinson, Carey, and Aspinal in the pack it’s doubtful if any team in the league will be able to take points from the current squad.

The Stags youngsters Stuart Allan, Jamie Baxter, Saul and Keifer Holdsworth all showed improvement in their game, as ever the experienced Strapon ensured that the youngsters were made welcome.

Grangemouth are at home to Edinburgh Uni 3s this Saturday with a 3pm ko.
